Where's My Refund?

What You Will Need

  • Social Security number or individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN)
  • Your filing status
  • Your exact refund amount

Make sure to wait 24 hours after e-filing or at least 4 weeks after you mailed your return. Updates are made daily, usually overnight.

Should you call the IRS?

The IRS issues most refunds in less than 21 days, although some require additional time. You should only call if

  • It has been at least 21 days since you e-filed
  • It has been at least 6 weeks since you mailed your return
  • The Where's My Refund? service tells you to contact the IRS
